Our Mission:
Develop each child as a total individual – socially, emotionally, physically and cognitively in a secure and caring environment.

Assumption Nursery School & Toddler Center was founded in 1977 by the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church as part of their community outreach program. The school was first located in the Assumption Cultural Center at 21800 Marter Road in the communities of St. Clair Shores and Grosse Pointe Woods. By 1981 increased enrollment and an extensive waiting list warranted expansion. Church leaders purchased the former Eastpointe Elementary School building from the South Lake School District located just 2 blocks away at 22150 Marter Road.

The School is one of the largest nursery schools in the state and has received the Governor’s Award for Excellence recognition in 2001 and became the winner in 2002.

In 2005 a $1.7 million project for expansions and improvements began. The school was awarded a $250,000 grant from the United Way Community Services through the Nonprofit Facilities Center for a planning and feasibility study as well as a construction grant. The project was completed in 2008.

Assumption has a staff of more than 40 teachers and aides who enthusiastically provide the best in early childhood education. Our school’s director, Anne Chilingirian, is a candidate for a Masters of Arts in Teaching and brings with her corporate work experience from three Fortune 500 companies. During her Master’s education, she was a teacher at Assumption.

Our facilities are ideally scaled to size for children. The 11 generously sized classrooms all boast various learning centers to help your children develop language arts, math, science, and life skills. We also have a full size gymnasium where children receive daily physical education classes. Additionally, there is an enclosed courtyard, spacious grounds with separate age appropriate play equipment for both toddlers and pre-schoolers, and a hands-on nature trail to provide ample opportunities for recreation and learning.
